Intimidating TBR Tag

So I was tagged by the lovely ZeZee with Books to do the This or That Book Tag, but since I’ve already done that one, I thought I’d pick another tag to do instead!  I found the Intimidating TBR Tag over at the Stuck in Fiction Blog, and thought it was great, so here we go!

1) What book have you been unable to finish?

A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki. I think this book is absolutely beautiful. I really was hooked when I started reading it (back when it was first released), but it’s a slow burn kind of book. It’s a book that I needed to take my time on, to really savor, but unfortunately, I started it during a school break and just didn’t have the time to savor it, so it fell to the wayside.

What book have you yet to read because…

2) …you just haven’t had the time?

11/22/63 by Stephen King. It’s just so massive! If I had the time to really sit down and read it, I would, but I feel if I can only read little bits at a time (which is the only way I’d have time to read it right now), I think I would take so long to finish, I’d forget details from the beginning. And that’s no way to read a book!

3) …it’s a sequel?

Slade House by David Mitchell. Okay, so it’s not really a sequel, but I don’t have any desire to read sequels when I haven’t read the first book yet. They just aren’t on my radar. But I’ve heard for Slade House, it’s best to read the Bone Clocks first, and I haven’t done that quite yet.

4) …it’s brand new?

The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney. It sounds really awesome, but I’m kind of on a kind of, sort of book buying ban while I save up for a couple of vacations coming up, so until I’ve saved some money, no new books for me. But I’m telling myself that’s okay, because I’ve got shelves full of unread books.

5) …you read a book by the same author and didn’t enjoy it?

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. I read Persuasion in college and Pride and Prejudice about a year ago, and I really don’t get what the big deal is about Jane Austen. I sometimes get the urge to read an Austen because I think maybe this one will clue me in on the hype, but then I remember how much I hated Pride and Prejudice…

6) …you’re just not in the mood for it?

Some Luck by Jane Smiley. I own her whole trilogy (signed) in hardcover, and I love Jane Smiley, but I haven’t been in the mood to start this epic yet.

7) …it’s humongous?

Oh, I have tons of chunky books, but I’d have to say the one I’m most intimidated by is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. Because it’s a classic.

8) …because it was a cover buy that turned out to have poor reviews?

I don’t really have one, because I just don’t do cover buys.

9) … What is the most intimidating book in your TBR pile?

My unread Toni Morrisons. I’ve read Beloved and thought it was absolutely gorgeous. I know Morrison’s books are all pretty amazing, but they are so intensely emotional, I just don’t feel like I can handle them right now. I’ve been focusing on happy lately!

So there’s a peek at my Intimidating TBR! Any books on your list? What books do you have on your TBRs that you’re intimidated by?

  1. I’ve seen this one going around. I think it was created by Lindsey Rey, a booktuber. But I’ll consider myself tagged by you! 🙂
I also would like to read Nest. It sounds so interesting.

    1. Yes, consider yourself tagged! I’d love to see your answers!

As soon as I read the summary for The Nest I wanted to read it. It’s taking a lot of will power for me not to go out and buy it.

  2. It only took me three days to finish 11/22/63 because it’s so action packed. I loved it! And I did really enjoy Slade House without having first read The Bone Clocks. Great post!

  3. I haven’t read these books but I do know that Hugo’s books are incredibly long and very heavy so I commend you for having it on your TBR!
