What better book to use for this prompt than the only science fiction book I’ve really enjoyed in recent history. The Martian by Andy Weir
Month: September 2017
Day 24: Drinks
So, I don’t usually eat or drink anything while I read (can’t risk spilling something on my pretty pages), I’m still going to share my favorite drinks in general. Pretty boring right now, really: lime flavored sparking water, coffee (and the occasional PSL), and tea, which right now I’m hooked on Teavana’s Pumpkin Oolong. Very fall and very lovely! Perfect for my fall Readathon breaks!
Day 25: Comics Craze
Comics are the best for a Readathon. They are short, quick, and attention grabbing. You can blow through a few issues or a trade paperback or two, and feel like you’ve really accomplished something during the readathon.
My pick for comics for the Dewey’s Readathon will be the new Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series. I’ve loved Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys since I was a little kid, and I was thrilled to find a new comic series to dive into starring my favorite detectives. I’ve been saving the issues for a binge read.
Day 26: Short Stories
I love short stories for Readathon a. They are the perfect way to switch things up and still may progress on your goals. Here’s a short story collection by an amazing author to maybe fill in some reading gaps.
What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours by Helen Oyeyemi
Day 27: Snacks
So, the next prompt is snacks. I don’t really eat snacks (or anything) while I read. I’m one of those people that tries to keep her books as pristine as possible, even after they’ve been read, so I can’t risk getting food or stains on the pages.
While I’m not reading, however, my current favorite snack is Boulder Canyon Avocado Oil Potato Chips. So. Good. The best are the Malt Vinegar and Sea Salt flavor.
See you guys tomorrow with another prompt!
Day 28: Red
With today’s prompt the first thing that came to mind was my latest read. The new Archie comic series is so much better than I expected. I’m really loving it. Volume 4 has been the most surprising of the lot so far, and I will definitely be keeping up to date with this series as time goes on.
Day 29
Today’s prompt is a short book. My pick: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I’m choosing this book, because even though it seems like a heavy subject, this is a really great read. This small little book is full of great information, and while it took very little time to read, I feel like I’ve learned a lot from it.
30 Days of Readathon
I always try to participate in some way with Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon, and it looks like they’re making their tenth year, this year, even extra special. There is a post of 30 prompts about books, and it all leads up to the actual Readathon. Of course I’m going to do my best to post about all of them! This makes the days leading up to the Readathon even more exciting!
Day 30: Favorite Book
I have a rotation of about five books that I will constantly call my “favorite.” Today, I’d have to say my favorite book is Gone with the Wind. I’m in the middle of a very slow reread right now, and I’m just amazed by this sweeping epic. Although tragic, this book never fails to make me happy. It may have its flaws, but to me, it is perfect just the way it is.
What I’ve Been Reading Lately
It’s been a busy summer, which included a lot of reading good books! Here’s a quick overview of some of the best books passing through my shelves lately:
Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari.
This was such a great audiobook that was both funny and insightful. I am so glad I finally gave this book a try.
Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson
There is so much information packed into this little book! I’ve been seeing it everywhere, and while I was skeptical at first, I think it’s pretty fantastic. It’s interesting, straight to the point, and not completely over my head.
The Year of Living Danishly by Helen Russell
Can you see a theme with my books? I’ve been on a serious non-fiction kick lately, and this book was perfect. I’ve always had a love for Denmark and reading more about the lifestyle and cultural differences was delightful.
Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner
I’m reading this one right now because I’m taking part in the Modern Mrs. Darcy Book Club, and this is the reading for the month of September. I think it is quietly beautiful right now, but there is nothing striking me as amazing yet. I’ve still got half the book to read, so we’ll see if I change my mind…
