What better way to start off the new year than listing my top ten bookish resolutions! Go check out The Broke and the Bookish for other resolutions.
- Start this blog – This has been an idea of mine for a while now, so I’m glad to actually be starting it.
- Don’t be afraid to DNF – I always feel guilty for not finishing books, but I shouldn’t! If I’m not enjoying it, I should just move on. Maybe I’ll try it again some other time, maybe I won’t; I’m not going to worry about it.
- Try new genres – I’m huge on realism, but I’m very aware that there are so many brilliant books out there that I’m missing out on. It’s time to get out of my comfort zone: fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, YA, romance…the possibilities are endless!
- Make time for reading – Every day if I can.
- Make time for writing – Same thing (though I’ve always found this particular goal a bit difficult. I might have to settle for once a week…)
- Don’t worry about numbers – Pages, books, time spent…none of it should matter if I get some good reading time in.
- Classics – I miss reading the classics back in undergrad. I found a lot of authors I really enjoyed, but didn’t continue on with them. Time to get back to them.
- Indie and small press authors – I know there are a ton of great ones out there, but I keep getting sidetracked by the Big 5 presses. I’m going to start reading some of the lesser known presses this year.
- More nonfiction – I’ve always loved nonfiction and want to keep reading them.
- Read what I want – I’m not going to force myself to read anything I don’t really want to read. I’m only going to read things I’m excited about.
I’ve been wanting to find some bookish blogs to follow – keep up the good work! I can never get enough of people talking about how much they love books.
My resolutions so far are:
1) Finish all the books I’m borrowing and return them
2) Actually read my TBR books I already own before going out and getting more – the list keeps growing and I’ve run out of space on my bookshelf!!
3) This is the year I will finally read the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Thanks! I really appreciated it. I’m loving your list, too. The Lord of the Rings is great!

I never finish books I don’t like. I always think that’s a waste of time, since I could be reading something I like. I agree…read things you’re excited about!!!! Yay! I love it when I start reading something and look up to see that it’s nighttime and it was lunch when I picked up the book:) I read Urban Fantasy (LOVE Jim Butcher, the DRESEN FILES, Simon Green’s NIGHTSIDE (which is over now), although his Drood Series in fun. I read anything, well almost anything about PARIS, and I like books on physics. Like books about bookstores:) The only things I don’t like are westerns and regular novels. I don’t like things that drag or don’t get to the point but have a lot of filler to make a 35 page book into one that’s 345 pages long. LOL I liked Evanovitch’s Bounty Hunter series because it was funny but now it’s just repetitive and old.

I used to read that series too! It just got so tired, reusing the same formula all the time. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that! I admire your ability to quit a book you’re not liking. I’ve always kind of felt like if I start something I should finish it, and then it takes forever to read.
